Let us remind ourselves that our philosophy must be to study the Bible as God has spoken it and is sufficient as written. We must understand why it was written but learn Biblical principles to apply to our lives. Of course God used people to write what He wanted to say and the author helps us understand the purpose of the Scripture.

Let’s first make a quick note about a controversial topic being discussed in the Christian Community today, called the “Gap” Theory.
a. They claim v1 happened then v2 on is a second creation.
b. It gives an “explanation” for the billions of years of earth as scientist proclaim.
*The “theory” of the “gap” between v1 and v2 is really !
- If we can fit things in Scripture then we can do it to other passages (Rev. 22:18-19)
- No other Scripture supports a “gap theory”
- *Can Gap theory support a merciful God??
We read in v1 that God created the heavens and the earth.
Understand it as written! It is either a heading or a summary statement. No need to “fill in”!
A similar statement is “I made a Bible Study Lesson!” Now, let’s continue with the lesson…

Genesis 1:3-5…. at least 3 things happened, but one main event:
God made “light” and separated it from darkness
“light” time was day and dark time was night
*God made the = one evening and one morning!

And so, God specifically tells us that He started a 1st Day for people; then as we note further in Genesis 1, God created in 5 more days, then on a 7th Day, He rested. God started the first week for all mankind!
*God is in of man’s time!
